I received some kind, very positive feedback from Clare herself, who, after viewing her proof images emailed me to say "The photo shoot was amazing thank you.  You made me feel so comfortable and I got all the shots I wanted.  The photos are amazing, I'll need time to decide what ones I will want."

Comments like those from clients really do make my day and are one of the reasons why I enjoy this field of photography so much.  Capturing a woman at this precious, wonderful stage in her life really is an honour.

I'm looking forward to meeting Clare's new baby after it arrives as I've been commissioned to undertake a maternity and baby's first year package of shoots.

I've had the pleasure of photographing the family over the last year or so, starting with a maternity shoot with the mum and her partner and then a series of shoots every few months as the little girl has grown.  These are one of my favourite types of commissions as you really get to see how a new life changes over time and also you invariably become good friends with the parents.  I certainly look forward to photographing the growing family in the years to come.

I just wanted to share with you a few images taken during a recent newborn photoshoot. 

Baby Grace was only 10 days old and was very well behaved for her first photoshoot along with her proud sister (and parents)!

I have previously photographed the family on several occasions, most recently for a location based family photoshoot in the autumn colours of one of the local parks.  I was delighted to be asked to photograph their gorgeous newborn girl as their family continues to grow.

All the photos you see here were taken at the client's home where I set up my portable studio.  This meant that everything was close to hand for the mother and new baby.

I work to ensure that I capture the photos that the family are after in order to provide them with lasting memories of this special time in their lives.

Whilst I was out and about this week I spotted the item of maternity wear shown in the photo to the left.

It certainly brought a smile to my face and took me back to the day of our daughter's birth, almost three years ago now.

The Watford branch of the National Childbirth Trust (NCT) is holding one of it's bi-annual 'Nearly New Sales' on Saturday 10th November and one of the raffle prizes available will be a photoshoot with Bump2Baby Portraits.


The winner will be able to choose either a pregnancy or baby photo shoot which will include a 10x8 inch print of the winner's choice from the session.


Do go along and support the NCT Nearly New Sale as it is a great way to get a variety of quality baby and toddler products and clothing at a fraction of their original cost.

The sale is being held at Rudolf Steiner School in Kings Langley on Saturday 10th November between 11am and 1pm.

We started with some shots of Lisa and her partner together.  It is always nice to involve a partner in the photo shoot and I like to capture the connection between the expectant mum and the excited dad.  I find it also helps my client to get used to being photographed with someone familiar around and assists them in relaxing into the session.  Here is one of the images we captured:

We then moved on to capturing the shots of Lisa on her own that she wanted.  We used a selection of backdrops – both light and dark along with different voile drapes to give variety to the photos.  Below is a selection of some of the images I took:

I've just finished working through the final images and sent Lisa a DVD slideshow that she can watch on her TV along with a set of contact sheets to enable her to pick the images she likes.  She mentioned during our discussion before the shoot that she likes black and white images so I have made sure that there is a good variety of the shots in that style.  I’m sure that she is going to love them!

The whole session lasted around 2 hours from my arrival to when I had finished packing everything away again.  As mentioned above I like to have a chat with my clients first to discuss the sort of shots they would like me to capture for them.  This also gives me a chance to get to know them a bit better too.  I usually allow around an hour for the pregnancy photography shoot itself as I feel that it is important that clients do not feel at all rushed and part of a production line when having a maternity photo session.  

I also like to capture a good selection of images including some that maybe the client hadn’t initially considered as I would hate to finish a session and for the client to end up thinking “I wish I had tried this idea or that one” when the chance has gone.
